In China, the true cost of Britain's clean, green wind power experiment: Pollution on a disastrous scale

Mail Online by Simon Parry and Ed Douglas

On the outskirts of one of China’s most polluted cities, an old farmer stares despairingly out across an immense lake of bubbling toxic waste covered in black dust. He remembers it as fields of wheat and corn.

Yan Man Jia Hong is a dedicated Communist. At 74, he still believes in his revolutionary heroes, but he despises the young local officials and entrepreneurs who have let this happen.

‘Chairman Mao was a hero and saved us,’ he says. ‘But these people only care about money. They have destroyed our lives.’

Vast fortunes are being amassed here in Inner Mongolia; the region has more than 90 per cent of the world’s legal reserves of rare earth metals, and specifically neodymium, the element needed to make the magnets in the most striking of green energy producers, wind turbines.

Live has uncovered the distinctly dirty truth about the process used to extract neodymium: it has an appalling environmental impact that raises serious questions over the credibility of so-called green technology.

The reality is that, as Britain flaunts its environmental credentials by speckling its coastlines and unspoiled moors and mountains with thousands of wind turbines, it is contributing to a vast man-made lake of poison in northern China. This is the deadly and sinister side of the massively profitable rare-earths industry that the ‘green’ companies profiting from the demand for wind turbines would prefer you knew nothing about.

Regarding James Hansen:

Re: James Hansen, see the attached, I took them from a book, “Eco-Scam”, by Ronald Bailey, published by St. Martin’s Press, NY, 1993, ISBN 0-312-08698-9.

I found this book in the local Hospice Shop, it debunks all the apocalyptic doomsayers predictions.

Phil Goff Confused About ETS

Labour Leader Phil Goff’s statement that the Emissions Trading Scheme forces people to subsidise polluters shows that Labour, like the Greens, is confused about the real effects of the scheme and that they are clearly not ready to govern, ACT New Zealand Parliamentary Leader Hon John Boscawen said today.

“What Mr Goff did not tell New Zealanders is that the biggest effect of the ETS is that farmers, businesses and consumers alike are being forced to subsidise forest owners through higher electricity, petrol and food prices,” Mr Boscawen said.

ETS Credibility? What Credibility?

ACT Deputy Leader and Climate Change Spokesman John Boscawen today questioned how Environment Commissioner Dr Jan Wright could call for a strengthening of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) in order to maintain its credibility when the fact is that it has no credibility to begin with.

“For the ETS to have any semblance of credibility the Government must first clarify its purpose and whether that purpose is achievable.  There must also be some benchmark against which progress can be measured,” Mr Boscawen said.

Carbon Tax - the Magic Horn of Plenty

by Viv Forbes- Carbon Sense Coalition

We are told that the carbon tax will be "revenue neutral".

Big deal. So was the budget in Soviet Russia – they took 100% of your income and spent it all.

But carbon tax collectors look like spending far more than their income.

ETS review panel should resign in protest

Open Letter to ETS Review Committee by way of a Submission

With all due respect, it is farcical for me to make a submission under the stated Terms of Reference.  Dr Smith in a reply to my protesting E-mail on 07/06/10 assured me (and all other protesting parties) that there would be a full and thorough review of the NZ ETS being introduced at that time. This review to take place early in 2011.

Prepare for New Ice Age Now says Top Paleoclimatologist

By Terrence Aym

March 28, 2011

Geologic records show that Ice Ages are the norm, punctuated by brief periods of warming. Now one of the most highly respected paleoclimatologists has weighed in and is warning everyone to prepare for a new Ice Age.

A new Ice Age? Then what's all the brouhaha about man-made global warming over the past 20 years?

George Kukla, 77, retired professor of paleoclimatology at Columbia University and researcher at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory responds, "The only thing to worry about global warming is the damage that can be done by worrying. Why are some scientists worried? Perhaps because they feel that to stop worrying may mean to stop being paid."

The "Earth has experienced an ongoing cycle of ice ages dating back millions of years. Cold, glacial periods affecting the polar to mid-latitudes persist for about 100,000 years, punctuated by briefer, warmer periods called interglacials," Kukla says.

Lights on for 'Earth Hour".

A statement by Viv Forbes, Chairman of the Carbon Sense Coalition.

For Immediate Release, 25 March 2011

The Carbon Sense Coalition said today that celebrating “Blackout Night” at the time of the March equinox, half-way between mid-summer and mid-winter in both hemispheres, shows that "Earth Hour" is nothing more than green tokenism.
