To John Key and others from Murray L 1 April 2010

National has a goal to lift the productivity of NZ. Putting the ETS into place will work against this goal.

Comments made by John Key & Tim Grosser suggest that the main reason for our continued pursuit of an ETS is so that NZ does not become isolated from its trading partners.
This is weak. An ETS should be considered based on good scientific data. If this is not available, then an ETS should not be considered.

I voted for National at the last election because I was of the opinion that National was staffed by thinking people. National had stood against the ETS.
If the ETS is implemented, I and many others WILL NEVER VOTE FOR NATIONAL AGAIN.

Why…

1. The science is not settled. What sort of Government makes policy on unsettled science.
2. The recent fraud by scientists at the Hadley Centre, and at NASA, in making inappropriate adjustments to climate data, resulting in the completely discredited "Hockey Stick" temperature graph (Michael Mann), and the recent admission by Phil Jones that temperatures have been falling since 1995, even while they continued to publish data saying the opposite, should have NZ policy makers concerned.
3. You should be listening to some independent commentators, people who do this work while NOT relying on government money…read / view articles by Carter, Lindzen, Singer and many more….
If consensus is required, the relatively small number of scientists involved in the IPCC is dwarfed by the 30,000 plus scientists who have signed a petition against the IPCC conclusions.
4. The IPCC is a POLITICAL organisation. It is NOT a science organisation. Their recent posturing over the Himalayan ice melt by 2035 is proof enough to confirm this view.
But there is the continued prevention of views opposing the IPCC view from being published, that should be setting off alarm bells…DON'T MAKE POLICY ON SHONKY SCIENCE.

I could go on… know doubt you have heard it all before… my question really is that if you have heard it all before, why don't you become just a little suspicious, and perhaps doubt that the direction you are taking this country, is the correct one?.

5. Farmers will struggle to pay for the costs of an ETS
6. Increases in the price of fuel & power will add huge costs to the NZ economy
7. Why is NZ leading when no one is following…Australia, USA, China, are all standing back & waiting….
8. The IPCC position is based on flawed models. Models that have failed when validation was attempted, where is the hot air over the equator?… why make policy on flawed science.
9. Everyday that passes it becomes clearer that CO2, methane & nitrous oxide are not the culprits. NATURAL VARIATION IS THE CULPRIT. All the CO2, methane & nitrous oxide produced by NZ, (all 0.2% of the worlds production), is consumed within the NZ economic boundary (presentation by ? , scientist from Waikato Univ, to local National Party meeting, Hamilton East, Spring 2009)
10. If NZ closed down tomorrow, it would not make any difference to global temperature, so why tax us??
11. The record cold of the Northern hemisphere winter, the first ever frost in the Waikato on March 18th 2010?? The prediction that this winter will be the coldest for many years… is this global warming?

REMEMBER YOUR GOAL OF LIFTING NZ's PRODUCTIVITY ABOVE THAT OF AUSTRALIA, IMPLEMENTING YOUR ETS WORKS AGAINST THIS GOAL.

WHILE THERE IS ANY HINT THAT THE SCIENCE IS NOT SETTLED, YOU SHOULD NOT BE ACTING.

A THINKING GOVERNMENT WOULD REPEAL THE ETS, FAILING THAT THEY WOULD TAKE ADVICE FROM DAVID LANGE….

TAKE TIME FOR A "CUP OF TEA"…..AND PUT THE EMISSIONS TRADING SCHEME ON HOLD....
