LAST Saturday's column was devoted to eco-fundamentalism, the new deep-green
religion. It may have come as a surprise to some readers who had imagined
themselves sceptical agnostics or atheists to learn that they were in the grip
of an essentially religious enthusiasm. Some have written in to deny it and
others have wondered whether I may have been carried away by a metaphor or
trying to taint the greenhouse hypothesis by associating it with superstition.

To answer the last point first, I'm not remotely anti-religious and use the term
fundamentalism in a diagnostic rather than a dismissive way. There is a vast
gulf fixed between the sceptical, rational approach and a religio-magical view
of the world.

Climate Change still with us but Global Warming Cancelled

First Published in NBR:4/4/08 Straight Thinking – By Owen McShane

Or: Being in the Hottest Spot at the Right Time

Unlike so many of the hapless victims on TVOne’s daily Crimewatch – (also known as TVOne News) I have recently been lucky enough to be in two right places at the right time.

In December, last year, at the UN conference in Bali, I heard Viscount Monckton present a paper prepared by himself, the Australian Dr David Evans, and our own Dr Vincent Gray (who were at Bali too) which showed that while the IPCC models predict that greenhouse gases would produce an extensive “hot spot” in the upper troposphere over the tropics the satellite measurements show no such hotspots have appeared.

Monckton and Evans found that a large part of this discrepancy is the result of some basic errors in the IPCC’s assessment of the Stefan-Boltzmann equation. When they applied their revised factor to the effect of greenhouse gases the temperature rise was about a third of that predicted by the IPCC.

UN IPCC SCIENCE REVIEWED- Fair Farmers group

Following is an analysis by the Fair Farmers group of the effects of

an ETS on the farming sector. It draws attention to many deficiencies

in the IPCC based science used to justify an ETS applying to the

sector and calls for an independent inquiry before any action is taken

to proceed with the scheme.

What happened to Global Warming? -BBC

By Paul Hudson
Climate correspondent, BBC News

This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.

But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.

So what on Earth is going on?

Farmers hit out at new-look ETS plan

By BLAIR ENSOR - The Marlborough Express

Last updated 13:00 09/10/2009

Marlborough farmers unleashed a scathing attack on the Government at a meeting held to discuss the Emissions Trading Scheme.

About 60 people, mostly farmers, attended The Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), What It Means For You event last night, hosted by Marlborough Federated Farmers.

"It [the ETS] is a treacherous journey, but the risk of not being in it is too big," said Kaikoura MP Colin King, which drew loud cries of "rubbish" from the floor.

New Zealand's failure to implement an ETS could damage exports and access to markets of the wealthiest nations, Mr King said. The country's 100 per cent pure image and the tourism industry could also be tarnished.

Factsheet on 1970s Coming 'Ice Age' Claims
'Fears of a coming ice age, showed up in peer-reviewed literature, at scientific conferences, by prominent scientists and throughout the media'

Tuesday, October 06, 2009By Marc Morano  –  Climate Depot

Despite many claims to the contrary, the 1970's global cooling fears were widespread among many scientists and in the media. Despite the fact that there was no UN IPCC organization created to promote global cooling in the 1970s and despite the fact that there was nowhere near the tens of billions of dollars in funding spent today to promote man-made global warming, fears of a coming ice age, showed up in peer-reviewed literature, at scientific conferences, voiced by prominent scientists and throughout the media.

Garth George- Copenhagen Blabfest is a load of hot air

4:00AM Thursday Oct 08, 2009
By Garth George

Buried on a far back page of world news in this newspaper on Monday was an item recording that an international carbon credits scam worth more than $2.2 billion is being investigated by detectives in at least five European countries.

The fraud, covering Britain, Italy, Spain, Denmark (scene of the upcoming Copenhagen international climate negotiations conference in December) and Sweden involves the buying and selling of emission allowances across borders to avoid value added tax.

For those of us who have known for years that man-made carbon dioxide emissions have nothing to do with global warming, and who recognise that an unnecessary international carbon trading scheme would be wide open to abuse, this comes as no surprise.

Lawrence Solomon: The end is near

I know that the global warming scare is over but for the shouting because that’s what the polls show, at least those in the U.S., where unlike Canada the public is polled extensively on global warming. Most Americans don’t blame humans for climate change — they consider global warming to be a natural phenomenon. Even when the polls showed the public believed man was responsible for global warming, the public didn’t take the scare seriously. When asked to rank global warming’s importance compared to numerous other concerns — unemployment, trade, health care, poverty, crime, and education among them — global warming came in dead last. Fewer than 1% chose global warming as scare-worthy.

The Great Global Warming Scam (ctd)

Friday 2nd October 2009

Yet another scientific scandal has come to light which knocks another whopping crater in the already shattered theory of anthropogenic global warming. Eight peer-reviewed studies, which for years have played a significant supporting role behind the IPPC’s claims of AGW, have been shown to be fraudulent.
